Weekend Plans March 26/27

Here is your Beez update for this coming weekend – we really hope to see some of you after the long winter break!

Saturday – March 26
This might be the last weekend for skiing, and we plan to celebrate the end of the ski season with a snow outing for everyone … Meet at 9am at the Summit parking lot on Saturday morning. Some might ski, depending on weather and grooming, some will snowshoe. We might go to the lookout tent or do a tailgate party. Please bring a thermos, some snacks and maybe a blanket/pillow/chair.

Sunday – March 27
We are planning to hike around Dilworth, even if there is a chance of rain (bring a jacket). Meet at 10am at the Bean Scene on Dickson for the first coffee.

Meet at 10:30am at Dilworth Dr/Glacier Ct to hike.

New starting times for the weekend group rides

Summer cycling is coming to an end! Hopefully there are still a few weeks left of nice fall weather for rides amongst coloured leaves.

Starting Saturday, October 9, the start times for our Saturday and Sunday group rides will change to

10am.

Please pass this on to others who might not read the blog. Keep an eye out this fall for announcements for hiking adventures.

Unofficial Killer Beez Jerseys

Jersey

We have “test ordered” a nice-looking Bee jersey to check the quality and fit. It’s a great design, either in black or white, soft fabric and good quality. The shorts are very cushioned with gel inserts.

jerseyblackIf you are interested in joining, please order directly from Aliexpress (which is 100% safe and used by millions; they even refund the money if you’re not satisfied). Shipping is free and takes about 25 days. Prices are low (eliminate the middle man!).

Here is the link to the jersey; you can see the shorts as well as full sets there too. Let me know if you have questions.

Dilworth Hike – Friday October 1

A sunny day is forecast for Friday so we will be meeting at 10am to do the Dilworth hike. If you have never done it before with us and our local guide Mel, you will be surprised how many trails there are on Dilworth Mountain. The full loop including Baldy is roughly 10km with plenty of options to cut it shorter.

See you in the parking lot off Dilworth ,,,

Armstrong/Enderby Ride Sept 25 – NEW DATE!

We are planning on riding the backroads from Armstrong to Enderby (and back via Grindrod) on Saturday, Sept 25. Start time at the Memorial Park in Armstrong at 9am sharp. Washrooms should be open.

The route takes the backroads towards Enderby and then to Grindrod on mostly flat roads. Snack break is at Farmer John’s in Grindrod. After that, the regular route takes Springbend Road to Deep Creek and back to Armstrong. If you want more climbing, you can take Grandview Bench from Farmer John’s to Deep Creek.

It’s about 40km to Farmer John’s, total around 80km if taking Springbend. The route can be made shorter or flatter if needed.

Final assessment on the weather will be posted Friday afternoon. Please check the blog.

Killer Beez Arm Warmers

Since I have been asked a few times in the last few months about another order of arm warmers, I wanted to explore the “real” interest before committing to an order. The arm warmers are great for sun protection as well as some additional warmth when needed. It’s a very lightweight material.

If you would like to purchase a pair of arm warmers as shown, please let me know how many pairs and what size. Medium fits most women (such as Joyce and myself), Large all the men as far as I know (unless you prefer Medium). The cost would be $20/pair if you pick it up at a Sunday ride (the next two Sundays after arrival of package) or $25/pair if you want it mailed. Payment would be via Interac transfer.

Please email me directly with your “expression of interest”. If there is enough interest, I will respond and confirm your order.

Annual Rail Trail Excursion Sept 10

With moderate temperatures and a chill in the air at night, it’s time to schedule our annual Rail Trail tour to Coldstream. This year, we will be starting on Wood Lake to add this lakeside section for the first time.

Meet at 10am on Friday Sept 10 in the parking lot at the east end of Woodsdale Road (arrow in the pictures), just before the uphill towards Oyama we have ridden many times.

It’s always a favourite so cancel any non-essential plans and join us 🙂 It is 26km (one way) to the pub in Coldstream for lunch. Pace will be very leisurely. Most of us use a mountain bike or e-bike with sturdy tires but it has been done on a road bike with wider tires as well.

Check the blog on Thursday, September 9, for a weather update.

Kootenay Tour

I think we all have expressed already how much we enjoyed the Kootenay Tour and how much we appreciated Angus and Bunny organizing this (and Andrew providing his bike fixing skills). Thanks again!

I have selected a few highlights and added them to the gallery:

In light of rising Covid cases …

As we want to continue riding and chatting over coffee, we ask that you only join any of our rides if you are fully vaccinated or it has been at least 2 weeks since your first vaccination.

With rising case counts among unvaccinated residents of the Central Okanagan, we have to limit the rides to those who have protected themselves and the people around them. Safety for our riders is always our first priority, whether on the road or in the coffee shop … we look forward to seeing you after your vaccination.

See you out riding!
