The Westside ride is also starting this week, and always welcomes any rider. As per Michael:
“So as always, weather permitting we will start the West Kelowna Friday ride at 09:00am from Starbucks on Louie Dr. Come and enjoy a hilly ride.”

A few of you have been looking for information on the “Return of the Beez” 🙂 Well, it has been warm enough so no reason to delay the official start of the cycling season any longer. The roads also seem to be swept sufficiently to ride.
So whoever is ready and has his/her bike dusted off, come out to meet like-minded riders for a social, non-drop ride. We meet at 10am at the Bean Scene headquarters on Dickson Road across Landmark. Later in the year, as it gets hot, we move to 9am but for now the start time is 10am.
Ride is social and probably starts with 45-50km in East Kelowna at this time of the year, increasing to about 75km once the legs are acclimatized. We ride different routes and decide on the morning of the ride where exactly we are going.

This is really important additional corridor for cyclists, hikers and walkers to go from Kelowna to Vernon. It also has the potential to address a cycling pathway to UBCO.
We have a wonderful opportunity to have a rail trail from Kelowna to Vernon if the current bid to continue it as a railway does not go forward. It currently looks unlikely that it will continue to operate as a railway.
We need 30,000 support emails within the next 6 weeks, to convince the politicians that there is support for this initiative. We would very much appreciate having you add a link on your site, to encourage individuals to go to the following link, and add a very short message of support. It takes less than 1 minute.

End of Cycling Season Party 2013
To all Beez and cyclists
Lawrence and Mary Berg have kindly offered to host the end of season party 2013. It will happen at their home at 465 Glenwood Avenue (1 block north of the hospital) at 6pm on November 30 (Saturday).
Please BYOB and a little bit of nibbles to share.
Lawrence and Mary have a family member with chemical injury, so they ask that guests do not wear scents when they come to the party. This includes scented deodorants, shampoos and perfumes. It especially includes fabric softeners in clothing, which can cause significant problems for their family member. If you are unsure about any of this, please send Lawrence an email at [email protected] and he will be happy to answer your queries.

Rail Trail – We want it!
It would be a shame to miss out on this opportunity for an Okanagan Recreation corridor!
Check out the website. I have seen rail trails all over the world (most memorable were the Central Otago Rail Trail in New Zealand, which is spectacular, and the George Mickelson Trail in South Dakota). This would be such a boost for tourism and recreation opportunities for locals.
A worthy cause to support with a signature …
A world class university campus, home not only to regular classes but also presentations, lectures, seminars and workshops that any resident of Kelowna might want to access. But no safe and legal way to cycle to UBCO! It is time this gets resolved. I just signed this and more support is needed, especially from the cycling community

What a beautiful sunny ride this morning!
From next week on (Sunday, October 20) … we will be starting at 10am from the Bean Scene on Dickson Road. Give it another hour to warm up … and we should have a few more weeks left until the ski season starts! See you there!

Labour Day Weekend …
… Started with a lovely Saturday ride in perfect temperatures. Tomorrow, Sunday, the regular Sunday ride leaves at 9am from the Bean Scene on Dickson. Michael is doing a modified Green Mountain ride; see post below.
