Optional return routes are available once we reach the Airport.

The ride will be followed by coffee (of course) at the Bean Scene on Dickson Road.

Also of note, the new passing rules for motorists are in effect today.  Let us know in the comments if you notice any differences in motorist behavior due to these new regulations.

Start Time Change for Saturday and Sunday Group Rides

As the weather this coming weekend looks to be quite warm, we will start the Saturday and Sunday group rides (May 11 & 12) at 9:00 AM instead of 10:00 AM.  So, set your alarms one hour earlier and maybe leave those arm warmers and tights at home (at least for the weekend).

Sunday is Mother’s Day.  A time to celebrate the Mothers in our lives.

Signing a waiver is necessary for participating in all Killer Beez Group Rides.  If you haven’t done so yet, click here.

See you out there.

This year we will be holding Bob’s Ride, a memorial ride for Bob Perra, on Saturday, May 18th.  The ride will be lead by Bob’s frequent riding partner and close friend, Michael Malkowski.  The route, Bob’s favourite, is a very scenic, rolling, out and back route of approximately 70 km to Mabel Lake from Lumby with no major hills.  Those wanting a longer ride can start from Alexander’s Pub parking lot in Coldstream at 9 AM.  Those wanting  to do the 70 km ride will start at the Lumbly shopping centre  parking lot at 10 AM.

Killer Beez Saturday Group Ride Starts

The Killer Beez Saturday group ride will officially start this coming Saturday, April 20th at 10 AM.  Because the Kelowna Farmers Market now occupies the Dickson Road/Landmark Square area on Saturday mornings, the Killer Beez Saturday group ride will start from the Kelowna Cycle/Bread Company parking lot.  This is a moderate paced ride of approximately 40 – 50 km in distance.

If you missed the 2024 Paris Roubaix Race held on April 7th, click here to view a 11 minute video summary of the race.  The race is a total of 260 km with speeds of 50 – 60 km per hour over the cobbles.  Amazing!!

Change to BC Vulnerable Road User Law

Starting June 3, 2024, cyclists, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users will have new protections under BC’s new vulnerable road user law which requires drivers to give space when passing.  Under the new law drivers will be required to give cyclists at least 1 metre clearance when passing or face penalties.  Click here for further details.  Thanks to Paul and Linda Myers for the heads up on this.

By the way, the Killer Beez yacht, pictured above, is being sent back for repainting of the name.

Killer Beez 2024 Cycling Season Starts

The Killer Beez cycling season will officially start at 10 AM on Sunday, April 14th from the Bean Scene on Dickson Road.  A waiver must be signed in order to participate in all Killer Beez group rides.   Click here to access and sign a waiver that will cover you for all Killer Beez regularly scheduled, weekly rides during 2024.
