Proposed Two Day, South Okanagan Group Ride

Angus has proposed an interesting two day group ride in the South Okanagan.

The ride starts from the  Penticton Airport at 8:30 AM on Saturday, June 24th.  Carpooling is available by meeting at the Starbucks located at 101-2231 Louie Drive, Governor’s Market, Westbank, at 7:15 AM latest.  Secure parking is available at the Penticton Airport.  The parking rate for 2 days is approximately $10.00.

On the first day we will ride to Osoyoos via Green Mountain and Keremeos.  We will overnight in Osoyoos at the Super 8 Motel.  15 rooms have been reserved there for the Killer Beez.  Please call the Super 8 at (250) 495-2633 to secure your room.  Support vehicles will accompany the riders and transport their luggage plus snacks and drinks.

On the second day we will return to Penticton by riding along Black Sage Road to Oliver, where we will take Fairview and Willowbrook Roads to White Road.  White Road will take us by the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory to Highway 97.  We will then ride along Highway 97 back to Penticton.

The following links will provide detailed route maps for each day’s ride:

Update on Killer Beez Victoria Group Rides

The Killer Beez Victoria Group Rides scheduled for August 24 – 27 are definitely a go.  As of this date we have 22 riders registered with room for 8 more.

Riders will be divided into 3 groups based on pace.  Each group will have an leader fully experienced with the route and it’s potential hazards. Lawrence Berg and his riding buddies will lead us.

We plan to have dinner for the whole group, including spouses, on the evening of Friday, August 25th.  If you have a favourite Victoria restaurant that can handle a group of 40 – 50 please let me know in the comments.

Our feature group ride will take place on Saturday.  This is the 2 ferry Saltspring Island Route.   A shorter route will be scheduled for Sunday to accommodate riders driving home that day.

Lawrence Berg will have copies of the Capital Region Bike Map available for all riders.  It can also be downloaded by clicking here.  This map will allow cyclists to plan their own ride if they don’t want to participate in the scheduled route for the day.

Each rider will be asked to contribute $20 which will be used to cover miscellaneous expenses and to purchase dinner for our ride leaders during our group dinner on Friday evening.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Change in Start Time for Wednesday Group Ride

Effective immediately, the Killer Beez Wednesday Group Ride (Joyce’s Ride) will start at 1:00 PM (instead of 1:30 PM) from the Kelowna Cycle / Bread Company parking lot on Pandosy.

This change, as requested by Joyce Mulligan (our wise ride leader), will allow us to finish the ride before the schools let out (less traffic) and allow participants from West Kelowna more time to drive home before rush hour.

Joyce knows best.

Saturday Afternoon Group Ride

Since the forecast for Sunday looks to be cold and wet, but people are keen to ride, we have decided to have a group ride on Saturday afternoon, April 22nd.  The weather forecast for Saturday looks good.  The ride will start from the Kelowna Cycle parking lot at 1:00 PM.

This is a one time event as we hope we can get back to our normal group ride times next week.

Some Clarification About Killer Beez Group Rides

As the weather forecast for the Sunday Group Ride doesn’t look that great, it’s probably a good idea to clarify some details regarding all Killer Beez Group Rides.

These are informal, recreational rides without a formal leader or standard route.  We are simply a bunch of cycling enthusiasts meeting at a designated time and location, deciding on a route and heading out – followed by coffee and gossip, of course !!

Please be aware that during the spring, especially if the weather isn’t favourable, attendance may be minimal or zero.

Be safe out there.

Killer Beez Cycling Season Starts

The Killer Beez Group Rides will officially start at 10 AM on Sunday, April 23rd from the Bean Scene on Dickson Avenue.  The weather is warming up nicely and most of our routes have been swept, some for a second time.

Here are a few warm up exercises to try before riding.  Some are a bit tough so don’t hurt yourself.

Look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday.

End of Ski Season Party

Unfortunately the cross country ski season is rapidly coming to an end.

But……there’s good news associated with that bad news !!   Its time for a PARTY.

All Ski Beez and spouses are invited to celebrate the wonderful ski season we just experienced by coming to Leslie and Mel’s (3-980 Dilworth Drive) at 5 PM on Saturday April 29th (5 PM to 7 PM).  According to the standard Killer Beez party formula, please bring an appie you would like to share plus your favourite party beverage.

We are in townhouse number 3, on the right as you enter 980 Dilworth Drive.  Unfortunately visitor parking is limited so carpooling is recommended.  If necessary, additional parking is available at 950 Dilworth Drive (YMC Daycare Centre).

We look forward to seeing everyone then.
