The Killer Beez 2022 Tour of the Kootenays is in the books!

Many thanks to Angus and Bunny for organizing a wonderful repeat of last year’s 3 day Kootenay Group Ride (but in reverse).

It was simply epic !

Lots of smiles, lots of hills, lots of kilometers and lots of BEARS (ask Rory and Nick for details).

Congratulations to everyone who participated.  More than 300 km of riding and 3500 m of climbing over 3 days is a major accomplishment!

Kudos to all the Kootenay businesses (hotels, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops) that took such good care of us during a major labour shortage.  This tour wouldn’t have been as much fun without their full contribution and support!

Do it again next year?  Stay tuned :)

Please check out the picture gallery here.  More pictures will be added as they come in.

Thank you!

“Thank you, Sharon and Angus, for hosting this very special birthday gathering in honour of Joyce.  Your hospitality, your home, the people, the food … all spectacular.  We were honoured to be present.”

Linda’s words stand for all of our thoughts. Thanks again!

Armstrong Ride on Sunday, August 14th

Since it’s so nice riding around the Armstrong area we’ve decided to head up there again on Sunday, August 14th.  This time we will do the regular Okanagan Shuswap Century route (100 km).  70 km & 50 km routes are also available.  This group ride will start at 9 AM from the Memorial Park in Armstrong.

Those wishing to carpool can meet at the Eco Centre parking lot in Mission Creek Regional Park between 7:30 and 7:45 AM.

Hope to see you there.

Birthday Party Reminder

Today (Monday, August 8th) is a Great Day in Killer Beez Land.

It’s Joyce’s birthday.

For those of you who are memory challenged, this is to remind you to attend Joyce’s Birthday Party this evening.

Time:  5 – 8 PM

Location:  Angus and Sharon’s house at #43 2155 Horizon Drive, West Kelowna.   If the main gate is closed (6pm), dial 43 on the gate phone to have Angus open it.  Phone 250-769-4640 if the gate does not open.

Pot Luck:  Bring an appetizer, finger food or sweet deserty item for sharing with your fellow guests.  A birthday cake will be provided.

BYOB:  Bring your own liquid refreshments.  Coolers filled with ice will be provided.

Your presence is the only present needed.  See you there.

Start time for Wednesday Group Ride is now 9 AM.

Phew ! !  It’s getting a little too hot to be cycling mid afternoon as we found out on Wednesday.  Therefore we are changing the start time for the Wednesday Group Ride to 9 AM effective immediately.  The starting location remains the same (Kelowna Cycle / Bread Company parking lot).

Hope to see you out at the new COOL time.

Special Armstrong Ride is Scheduled for Sunday, July 17th.

It’s time to do another one of our favourite special group rides.  This ride starts in Armstrong but doesn’t follow the same route as the popular Okanagan Shuswap Century Ride.  Instead we will ride primarily on the east side of Highway 97 through scenic, rolling farmland and visit the communities of Enderby and Grindrod.

The ride will start from Memorial Park in Armstrong at 9 AM on Sunday, July 17th.  Those wishing to carpool can meet at the Eco Centre parking lot at Mission Creek Regional Park between 7:30 and 7:45 AM.

Further details will be posted later this week.

NOTE:  Due to some cancellations, several openings now exist for our three day group ride in the Kootenays (August 27 – 30).  Please contact Angus or Bunny at kootenaytrip@shaw.ca if you are interested in participating.  See prior post for details on this group ride.

A strange thing happened on the way back from Oliver

There was no head wind.  Highly unusual, but a very good thing.   Therefore there wasn’t the normal amount of whining after the last leg of the Oliver ride along Skaha Lake – just smiles.

11 riders (including Roxy) participated in Wednesday’s ride.  Conditions were a little cool at the start but warmed up nicely to an ideal riding temperature in the mid 20s.  We only experienced one flat tire (Bunny), which was changed by Andrew in under 5 minutes due to excellent supervision by the group.

The ride was followed by a great lunch at the Bad Tattoo in  Penticton.
