New Start Location and Route for Wednesday Group Ride

Tomorrow (Wednesday, June 12th) we will test a new starting location and route for the Wednesday Group Ride (Joyce’s Ride).  The ride will start from the Parkinson Recreation Centre parking lot (across the road from the pickle ball courts) at 10:30 AM sharp and proceed to the Airport via the Rail Trail.

Optional return routes are available once we reach the Airport.

The ride will be followed by coffee (of course) at the Bean Scene on Dickson Road.

Start Time Change for Wednesday Group Ride

Due to a few rider requests and in anticipation of hotter weather, the start time for the Wednesday group ride will change to 10:30 AM effective immediately.

Also of note, the new passing rules for motorists are in effect today.  Let us know in the comments if you notice any differences in motorist behavior due to these new regulations.

Update on Killer Beez Special Group Rides

Due to rider response, the West Kootenay Group Ride will be proceeding (August 24 – 27).  Hotel and route information will be provided as soon as accommodation is secured.

Rider response was not sufficient to proceed with the 2 day Penticton/Keremeous/Osoyoos Group Ride, however, we are scheduling a one day Green Mountain Group Ride for Sunday, June 23rd.  This ride will start at 9 AM from Skaha Lake Park.   Further details to follow.

Registration Deadline for Special Killer Beez Group Rides

Due to the urgent need to book accommodation for the Penticton/Keremeos/Osoyoos group ride (June 22 – 23) and the West Kootenay group ride (August 24 – 27) we are requesting that anyone interested in participating in these events register by Sunday, May 26th latest

Please register by emailing Angus at [email protected].

Further details regarding these rides are available on the May 15th post on this website.

A minimum of 30 riders is necessary for each event to proceed.

Bob’s Ride Changed to Sunday

Bob’s Ride, originally scheduled for 9 AM, Saturday, May 18, has been changed to 9 AM, Sunday, May 19 due to the high probability of rain on Saturday.   The starting location and route remain the same.

A signed waiver is necessary to participate in this ride.  Those of you that have already signed our online waiver for the 2024 season are all set.  However if you wish to join this ride and have not signed the online waiver please click here to complete it. You only have to sign this once per season for all weekly and special rides.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Potential Killer Beez Special Group Rides

There has been some discussion within the group recently about the possibility of repeating some of the rides we have taken in recent years.  A repeat of last year’s Penticton/Keremeos/Osooyos/Penticton ride, the 3 day Kootenay ride and perhaps 1 new ride.

The following special group rides are proposed for 2024.  All these rides will be supported by at least 2 support vehicles.  Accommodation has been checked and is available.  A minimum of 30 riders is required for each event to proceed.

Group Ride #1 – Penticton/Keremeos/Osoyoos – Saturday, June 22
From Penticton we ride up Green Mountain Road, turn south to Keremeos, take the back road to Cawston, then on to Osoyoos where we stay overnight.  Dinner, drinks and pool party upon arrival.   After a leisurely start, we return to Penticton via back roads on Sunday.

Group Ride #2 – West Kootenay 3 Day Loop – August 24 to 27
Sat, Aug 24 –  Arrive at the Super 8 motel in Castlegar and take a 30 km ride warm up ride followed by group meet and dinner.
Sun, Aug  25 – Ride from Castlegar via Pass Creek Road to Slocan Park then north up the Slocan Valley to New Denver.  Drinks, dinner, and overnight at Fabulous Miss Vicky’s motel and restaurant.
Mon, Aug 26 – Ride from New Denver to Kaslo and Balfour followed by a change in the route from the previous ride in this area. We will ferry from Balfour to Crawford Bay (longest free ferry ride in North America) and ride to Kokanee Springs Golf Resort where we will stay overnight.
Tues, Aug 27 – Take the ferry back to Balfour, then cycling to Nelson from where we ride backroads to Castlegar.  This is another route change as we do not go to Trail.

We are still working on a 3rd special group ride for September.

Please advise us of your intention to participate in the above group rides in the Comment Section by Sunday, May 19th latest so that we can confirm hotel reservation numbers.   A minimum of 30 riders is required for each event to proceed.  A full agenda and all other essential information will be provided after event confirmation.

Start Time Change for Saturday and Sunday Group Rides

As the weather this coming weekend looks to be quite warm, we will start the Saturday and Sunday group rides (May 11 & 12) at 9:00 AM instead of 10:00 AM.  So, set your alarms one hour earlier and maybe leave those arm warmers and tights at home (at least for the weekend).

Sunday is Mother’s Day.  A time to celebrate the Mothers in our lives.

Signing a waiver is necessary for participating in all Killer Beez Group Rides.  If you haven’t done so yet, click here.

See you out there.
