Due to popular demand we will be doing the Oliver (almost Osoyoos) ride on Wednesday, June 29th.  The ride will start at 9 AM from the Skaha Lake Park.  Those wishing to carpool can meet at Starbucks in West Kelowna between 7:30 & 7:45 AM.

This very scenic ride is just under 100 km in length and involves a considerable amount of cycling along Hwy 97 (there’s a bike lane).  However as we are doing this ride midweek, traffic volume should be reduced.  Here is a map of the route.

The heat is finally here so it’s time to start our weekend group rides an hour earlier.  Therefore starting this weekend (Saturday June 25th and Sunday June 26th) the group rides will start at 9 AM instead of 10 AM.

Shouldn’t be a problem because the sun probably is getting you up earlier anyway.   As for you sleepyheads, set your alarms.

As responsible cyclists we need to adhere to rules of the road.  In Kelowna that means not riding 2 abreast in a bike lane or on streets without bike lanes within the Kelowna city limits.

Kelowna bylaws state that a person operating a cycle:

• must, ride as near as practical to the right side of a highway, within a bicycle path if available.
• must not ride abreast of another person operating a cycle on the highway.

These bylaws override the Motor Vehicle Act and are the regulations we must abide by on our rides.  Thanks to Mike Wagstaff for bringing this to our attention.

Also keep in mind that some drivers may not know these rules and may not agree with them.

Volunteers are required for rider registration at the OSCR (Armstrong) Century Ride to be held on on May 29th.  This ride, one of our favourites, is finally back after a 2 year absence.  12 to 16 volunteers are required to register riders and pass out swag between 7:15 AM and 8:30 AM.  Please consider volunteering so this excellent ride can go ahead.
