Bob Perra Memorial Ride

According to his good friend and frequent riding partner, Michael Malkowski, the Mable Lake Ride was one of Bob’s favourites.   Therefore it is fitting that the Killer Beez do this ride to remember Bob and all the good times we spent in his company.

The ride will start in Lumby at 10 AM on Saturday, June 11th and will be led by Michael.  The starting point is the Lumby SuperSave located at 2056 Vernon Street.  There is ample parking available in the SuperSave lot.

The Mable Lake ride is a very scenic, rolling, out and back route of approximately 70 km with no major hills.

Those wishing to carpool can meet in the parking lot near the Eco Centre in Mission Creek Park (Springfield and Benvolin) at 8:45 AM.

In case of wet weather this ride may be postponed and participants will be advised through WhatsApp and this website.

Volunteers Required for Rider Registration at Armstrong Century Ride

Volunteers are required for rider registration at the OSCR (Armstrong) Century Ride to be held on on May 29th.  This ride, one of our favourites, is finally back after a 2 year absence.  12 to 16 volunteers are required to register riders and pass out swag between 7:15 AM and 8:30 AM.  Please consider volunteering so this excellent ride can go ahead.

In Memoriam

It is the most upsetting of all posts when we have to announce the loss of one of our beloved Beez. Having just chatted with Bob over coffee, smiling and happy after a 90km ride, his very sudden passing just days later shocked us all. There are lots of shared kilometres on our bikes around the Okanagan to remember, and Bob will be missed. We offer condolences and supportive thoughts to Betty and the rest of the family.

Is gravel biking for you?

With the rapid increase in motorized traffic in the Kelowna area, is gravel biking something we should be considering as a safer alternative to road biking?  What is gravel biking anyway?  Click here for some answers.

Maybe I shouldn’t be selling my cyclocross bike after all ! !

New Details for Wednesday and Saturday Rides

Effective immediately, the Wednesday Group Ride will start from the Bread Company/Kelowna Cycle parking lot on Pandosy. The time remains 2pm. The route will consist of a 35 km loop around East Kelowna.

Followed by coffee, of course.

On Saturday, the group ride starts from Bean Scene Dickson at 10am. We will be riding the Airport route from there.

ICBC versus BC Cyclists

With the introduction of a no-fault system by the Insurance Corporation of BC in 2020, BC cyclists are behind the 8 ball if they are involved in an accident with a motor vehicle.  Click here to learn the unfortunate facts.

Be extra careful out there.
