Green Mountain Ride: Sept 22

Green Mountain Ride September 22 (weather permitting)

Meet at 7:45am at Starbucks on 2231 Louie Drive in West Kelowna to carpool. If you have room for another rider or are looking for a ride, please meet us there!  The ride starts in Penticton at 9am in the Skaha Lake Parking lot (corner Elm Ave and Cypress St).

The ride is approximately 90km long with almost 1100m of climbing, see GPS here. Bring enough food and drinks for this distance (one resupply point at 47km).

We will regroup and wait for everybody at the very least at the Apex turnoff, the junction with Highway 3A, Twin Lake Golf Course (to resupply) and Okanagan Falls. If waiting to regroup is not for you, feel free to organize a separate ride!

Watch this blog for a last update on Sept 22 at 6am to confirm (or cancel) the ride, based on weather.

Armstrong Ride cancelled!

As per Tom Ferguson:

I am going to call a “no go” [for the Armstrong ride on Sunday Sept 15] now … the weather forecast doesn’t look good. People might as well know now so they can plan their day.”

We might try to reschedule for sometime in the future but no date yet.

Green Mountain Ride postponed!

With 80-90% chance of rain in Penticton and Keremeos all morning, it is wise to leave this ride for a dry day! The route is too remote to be caught in downpours or thunderstorms. We will postpone to September 22, in two weeks (next weekend is Tom’s Armstrong Classic).

If the roads are dry in Kelowna at 9am today, we can ride from the Bean Scene and stay close to town and shortcuts. If it’s wet, just coffee 🙂

Sept 15: Tom’s Armstrong Classic – Another favourite!

Presented by Tom Ferguson:

Armstrong Classic on September 15th (weather permitting)

We will meet at 8:45am at the Memorial Park in Armstrong (where the Century Ride starts); you should be ready to start cycling by 9:00am.  Please try to car pool to Armstrong with other cyclists if you can.  The park washrooms will be open.  Remember to bring enough food and drinks for the ride.  There will be a resupply at Farmer John’s in Grindrod (at 63km); they have drinks, snacks, ice cream etc.

The ride is approximately 80km with 815m of vertical gain (see GPS here).  There is an option at the beginning of the ride to add another 10 km (with a little climbing) for those keen and interested.  We would regroup on Otter Lake Road.

After the ride, for those interested, we will meet for lunch at Spallumcheen Golf Course.  They have decent food with a nice sitting area outside. The easiest way to get there is to drive south on Otter Lake Road.

Westside Special Ride

From Michael:

“We would like to do a different ride on Friday, August 09, this time in Summerland. We meet at Starbucks in West Kelowna for car pooling at 08:20am and start the ride at 9:00am in Summerland. Parking is on Kelly Ave at the Summerland Middle School. The ride is mostly on quiet roads with some hills; distance is about 65KM. Hope the weather will be good and see you there.

Sunday Ride July 14

A few of the Beez would like to make the upcoming Sunday ride (July 14) a bit longer by going to Predator Ridge. Same meeting spot and time (9am at Bean Scene) where the details of the route will be shared. If you’re interested, just show up prepared (food and drinks).

Special Ride September 8 – Green Mountain

After a wonderful ride in Armstrong today (21 riders), please mark your calendars for one of our all-time favourites, the Green Mountain Ride, for next Saturday, September 8. It will be another good training ride for the Salmon Arm Century on September 15!

Meet at 9am in the Skaha Lake Parking lot (corner Elm Ave and Cypress St).

Special Ride Saturday Sept 1 – CHANGE OF MEETING POINT!

Update 6am: A mainly sunny day awaits in Armstrong. Temp at 9am is 13C. See you at Starbucks at 7:30am or Tim Horton’s at 9am!

Please note: Due to the IPE Parade the area around the park in Armstrong will be busy. We are meeting at Tim Horton’s (2101 Harding Road) instead. It’s a left turn off the highway just before you get to Armstrong. It’s easy to spot, easy to park and is on our route.

We would like to propose a special ride from Armstrong this coming Saturday (Sept 1) … breaking up the long weekend a bit! Now that the smoke has cleared and the temperatures are perfect for cycling, we have to take advantage of it!

The route will be like this one, unless there is consensus to modify: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/48216749

It is roughly 79km and does NOT include the Grandview Bench (some might choose to include it …).

We would start the ride at 9am from Tim Horton’s. To encourage car pooling (and caffeine up!), we will be at Starbucks on Leathead/Highway 97 at 7:30am. Please meet there if you have space for other riders or wouldn’t  mind catching a ride!

The weather forecast is for mostly sunny and up to 22C. If there are concerns about the weather, we make a final call on Saturday morning (the cancellation would be posted to the blog by 6am).
