CHANGE OF START TIME

With the cooler temperatures, we will be changing the start time for the regular Sunday ride to 10AM (from October 14)!

Let’s hope we get a few more dry mild Sundays to take the bikes out before the ski season starts!

Special Ride September 8 – Green Mountain

After a wonderful ride in Armstrong today (21 riders), please mark your calendars for one of our all-time favourites, the Green Mountain Ride, for next Saturday, September 8. It will be another good training ride for the Salmon Arm Century on September 15!

Meet at 9am in the Skaha Lake Parking lot (corner Elm Ave and Cypress St).

Meet at 7:45am at Starbucks on 2231 Louie Drive in West Kelowna to carpool. If you have room for another rider or are looking for a ride, please meet us there!

The ride is 90km long with almost 1100m of climbing, see GPS here. Bring enough food and drinks for this distance (one resupply point at 47km).

We will regroup and wait for everybody at the very least at the Apex turnoff, the junction with Highway 3A, Twin Lake Golf Course (to resupply) and Okanagan Falls. If waiting to regroup is not for you, feel free to organize a separate ride!

Watch this blog for a last update on Sept 8 at 6am to confirm (or cancel) the ride, based on weather.

Special Ride Saturday Sept 1 – CHANGE OF MEETING POINT!

Update 6am: A mainly sunny day awaits in Armstrong. Temp at 9am is 13C. See you at Starbucks at 7:30am or Tim Horton’s at 9am!

Please note: Due to the IPE Parade the area around the park in Armstrong will be busy. We are meeting at Tim Horton’s (2101 Harding Road) instead. It’s a left turn off the highway just before you get to Armstrong. It’s easy to spot, easy to park and is on our route.

We would like to propose a special ride from Armstrong this coming Saturday (Sept 1) … breaking up the long weekend a bit! Now that the smoke has cleared and the temperatures are perfect for cycling, we have to take advantage of it!

The route will be like this one, unless there is consensus to modify: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/48216749

It is roughly 79km and does NOT include the Grandview Bench (some might choose to include it …).

We would start the ride at 9am from Tim Horton’s. To encourage car pooling (and caffeine up!), we will be at Starbucks on Leathead/Highway 97 at 7:30am. Please meet there if you have space for other riders or wouldn’t  mind catching a ride!

The weather forecast is for mostly sunny and up to 22C. If there are concerns about the weather, we make a final call on Saturday morning (the cancellation would be posted to the blog by 6am).

PS Photo is from 2010 :)

A great connection …

We tried out the newly paved Rail Trail today! A fast, flat and convenient way to get to UBCO …

As of today, only one small gravel section remains (between Dilworth and McCurdy) but that should also be done in the next few weeks.

Help the Apple as a bike course marshall!

If you can spare some time this weekend, please consider volunteering for the Apple Tri! We are excited to have the event back up and running (with a new course and transition on Bernard!) but they need more bike course marshalls to ensure the safety of the athletes.

Numerous shifts are available, just pick what suits your schedule. Thank you for helping out in your community!

Special Ride Monday, August 6

Armstrong-Grindrod Ride for Monday, August 6
Meet at Starbucks (1970 Kane Rd, unit 210, Kelowna) at 8 am to organize carpooling.  If you are heading straight to the starting point, the ride begins (and ends) at Rogers Foods, 4420 Larkin Cross Rd, Armstrong, BC V0E 1B6.  People should start arriving at Rogers Foods at around 9.00 am and we hope to start at 9.15 am.
