Enjoy the Easter weekend!

Just a quick check-in to see how everybody is doing! Hope you’re staying safe and positive. We will get through this one too! It’s great to see everybody outside being responsible and distanced, and it seems to be working.

Remember to take care of your health by going outside – to replenish mind and body, and to avoid Vitamin D deficiency (which weakens the immune system)! Responsible/safe walking, cycling, etc. are all good to keep you healthy … whatever your own choice may be.

If you want to connect with 1 or 2 other Beez for an activity (socially distanced of course), feel free to reach out to them directly; email me if you’re missing contact information for a friend. There will be no group rides or hikes for now :( Also, please use the comments section below to let us know how you are doing, whether you need help with anything (please don’t hesitate to ask!) and what keeps you strong during this time.

OSCR (Armstrong Ride) 2020 and Beez Group Rides are Cancelled.

Cycling Canada has recommended the cancelling all cycling events scheduled for May due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.  Therefore Lisa Jaffrey issued a statement today saying that the OSCR (Armstrong Ride) has been cancelled for 2020.  Lisa stated that the OSCR is next scheduled for Sunday May 30, 2021 with registration on Monday April 5, 2021.

Due to the pandemic the popular Killer Beez group rides will also not be starting up this season.  Even though the BC Centre for Disease Control allows public gatherings of 50 people maximum, a large group ride would not be acceptable under current conditions.  However, riders must ride and we can continue to do so in small groups (2 – 3) while practicing social distancing.  Call up a Bee friend you haven’t seen for a while and ask them to join you for a ride.

Be safe out there.  Keep your distance and respect others.

Checking in …

To all the Beez that are isolating, distancing or quarantining: I hope you are all doing well! I know some started getting out on your bikes but for now, we cannot encourage any group rides!

I wanted to send some links to wonderful films from the Banff Film Festival … Just in case you have some indoor time on your hands :)

Blood Road

I’m also attaching the full list of films available online that aired within the Banff Film Festival over the years. Some real gems in there!

Stay healthy!!

Date: Sunday March 1st, 2020

Time: 10 am to 2 pm

Location: Kelowna Nordic Main Cabin

Kelowna Nordic is celebrating the 2020 season with the best ski trails anywhere, which calls for a celebration—with prizes, chili, hot dogs and of course COOKIES! 🎁🌭🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪

Join us on March 1st, 2020 for a ski tour of either:

·         6 km one cabin ski loop to Log cabin,

·         12 km two cabin ski loop to Log and Meadow Cabins, or

·         16 km three cabin loop to Log, Meadow and Back Country Cabins.

There will be volunteers following each group, on this self-guided event. There will be colourful signs at intersections pointing you in the right direction based on your chosen route. Each cabin will be stocked with cookies for you to enjoy along your journey.

Back at the Main Cabin, there will be pots of chili, and drinks awaiting your return and a bonfire to roast marshmallows.

***Bring your bowls and spoons for the chili*** Who wants to use plastic spoons and paper bowls? We will have bowls and spoons for those that forget to bring their own.

All of this fun and food will be provided for a $5.00 donation.

Now, about those lovely prizes from Fresh AirKelowna Cycle and Anthony’s Subaru, how do you get those? You need to register that you’re going to attend. This will let us know you’re coming so we know how much food to prepare and to enter you in the prize draw. Register today with Wendy Vandenberg (wvandenberg@telus.net) for the festivities.

Note: please bring water for the tour and eat your cookies responsibly 😊

Most importantBring goodies to share at the apres ski / snow shoe.

NB: On Saturday, February 8th, Nordic is holding it’s annual Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe.  This is a fun event and another good opportunity to play in the snow with your fellow Beez.  For more details see the following.

Mark you calendar for the ANNUAL MOONLIGHT SKI AND SNOWSHOE on February 8th starting at 5:30 PM for the potluck dinner at the Main Cabin. Then plan to head out at 7:00 PM.

Please send an email to wvandenberg@telus.net to RSVP and let me know if you are skiing or snowshoeing.

Bring food to share for the potluck dinner. Simple is best. We have the wood stove to heat items in oven or stove top if needed.

Hot drinks will be supplied.

Please bring your own plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs and garbage bags.

There’s no electricity and that’s good news! The Main Cabin is cozily lit with lanterns.

Dress warm and don’t forget your headlamp.

Meanwhile, practice your baying-at-the-moon songs for when the mood strikes, as you glide or hike along the trails.

See you out there!
